East Darling Harbour Competition 2005
To challenge our sense of scale and bring the entire office together on one project we decided to submit an entry in the international competition to re-develop an enormous linear piece of waterfront on the western edge of Sydney CBD.
The proposal sought to reinforce that this future urban space will be a symbol of Sydney as one of the cleanest and most accessible harbours in the world. It is about activating the foreshore for residents, workers and visitors. It was not intended to be one hard architectural gesture; rather it was about implementing systems that allow for natural and social changes on an hourly, yearly and long-term basis.
We aimed to provide the system for a site that can evolve through "ribbons" for development - a series of sites released to Developers under the control of a new DCP.
