House Hastings
With this existing dilapidated California Bungalow in coastal Sydney, the decision as to whether to demolish and start again, or whether to add to the existing, was left open, for us to make proposals on. From meeting the Client, we sensed an attachment to the front of the existing house with its pressed metal ceilings and period detailing. As a result we explored ways of keeping the front whilst opening the back up to the garden, maintaining privacy from a taller 70’s block on the adjacent lot and exploiting the northern light. One of the most exciting parts of this challenge was ensuring a good result for the often difficult junction between old and new.
