Catherine House
Completed 2003, the extensive additions to this terrace can only be
glimpsed from the street. Due to the slope of the site, the rear half was lowered to create a large
indoor/outdoor living volume with bedroom suspended over, projecting into
the living room volume. Issues of overlooking and retained solar access
to adjacent property have informed the setbacks and modelling of the upper
level. Extensive louvres to internal and external walls have been incorporated to provide cross ventilation. Solar shading reduces heat gain during summer and rainwater is harvested and then used for clothes washing, irrgation and flushing toilets. 80% of the original house was recycled.
